Cohen-Fensterman Family

The Cohen-Fensterman family made a generous online donation to Wingspan the day after their visit to the 2023 fair. Dr. Cohen shared, “We were at the Minnesota state fair and met a wonderful woman who works with you, along with her staff. She had a group of residents with her--adult men and women. She was incredible and passionate and kind and her kindness shone so brightly. My husband and I talked with our young daughters about her role and your organization and thought that maybe we could help in some small way. We are happy for our gift to be allocated wherever it is most needed! When we walked away, I leaned down to my girls and said ‘that woman is an angel’. Thank you for all you do."

Richard Stellner

Richard Stellner, guardian of Paul at 29th Avenue writes, “As Paul’s cousin, I am very honored to be his guardian and see him thrive with all the wonderful staff at Wingspan.  I am happy Paul is well taken care of and feels comfortable at his Wingspan home. He is definitely more talkative now. The last couple years at the house with his ailing mother were not good. unfortunately. That did have an impact on Paul, but I am so very happy Paul at Wingspan appears to be resilient and is his normal self again.”

Marlene Hoppel

“Wingspan has been an important part of my life for 22 years. That is when my daughter Jane joined the Wingspan family. Over the past 22 years I have watched Jane grow into a confident caring individual with love and guidance from Anne, her house coordinator and friend. Anne goes above and beyond to make sure the ladies have support and a wonderful place to call home.”

Irene Kangas, family member

“My sister, Angela, is a proud member of the Wingspan Life Glee Club.  It has enriched her life, and helped her build confidence, by giving her the chance to do what she likes best.... singing, entertaining, and meeting new people. Since she has joined she has announced, "I was born to sing!"

Kim Wolff, Wingspan Board of Directors

Wingspan, its resources, the staff, and the clientele are so special. I’m so impressed with how it’s run and the care everyone displays when working with adults with developmental disabilities. This is a village of heroes."

Mary Morehouse, Manager, DD Services

I want you to know grateful I am for your assistance as well as for the wonderful service you consistently offer our clients.

Wingspan Care Lets Parents Sleep at Night

"Our family, not only Lynn, has been welcomed with open arms."

Darlene Bergerson: “Back then, almost 50 years ago, the advice from doctors was to put this child in an institution.”

LeRoy Bergerson: “It was never an option in the first place, we were going care for and love this child, like nothing had ever happened. It was probably the best decision we’ve probably ever made.”

Therese Davis, Wingspan COO:
“So people are living at home, well into adulthood, sometimes even into their forties and fifties. Their parents begin to age and can’t handle it anymore and then we might see a referral.”

LeRoy: “And also I think we thought she’d probably be happier with her peers.”

Narrator: “It’s clear that they’ve made this their home and that the environment is providing stability while fostering personal expression.”

Unknown Voice “What are you listening to?”

Resident: “Peter, Paul and Mary.”

Narrator: “It’s also an example of how we’re seeking to bring technology into their environment, not only to modernize the homes they live in, but to connect them to more of the things and people they love.”

LeRoy: “You there? Who’s that?”

Lynn: “Mommy. Hi, I’m going to see you Saturday.”

Darlene: “I can see you right now. Look up at me and talk.”

Staff member: “What she got for you?”

Darlene: “Our family, not only Lynn, has been welcomed with open arms. It didn’t take long before we were moving Lynn in. We received the best Christmas present ever December 1, 2012, moving day into Thomas House, and it didn’t even have to be wrapped. We are so pleased with the care and compassion shown by all the staff. We’re not having sleepless nights like before as we have seen a nice change in Lynn. She is also back in the community, working some. We are looking for even bigger and better things to happen in her life, and we know it will with Wingspan.”
